“The three Never’s”

Never lie

Never cheat

Never steal

John Wooden

I respect this guy very much because he has for this very day made me realize that the three NEVERS could really help me in accomplishing my goals to finish high school and go to college.

One example that made me realize the three NEVERS was when I and of bunch of my friend were walking to a liquor store to buy something; turns out that my friends were going to jack the store and when it came down to business I myself said that I was going to stop stealing, cheating and lying when I go places and when I am talking to an adult.

5 Tips for Staying Motivated

Tips 1-2

to succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes its hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.

1.   Focus on high-impact activities

The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although its tempting to do the simplest assignment first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.

To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.

2.   Create New Challenges

Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history book instead of another biography.

Student success statement

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience.”

Robert E. Lee

Reflection: what this is saying in my opinion is that no matter what day it is and what kind of day you are having you always have the choice to choose the right. Also by him saying that it will become easier by practice it means that you don’t learn this helpful tool right away it takes practice before you finally realize that you are doing right things that will benefit you down the road into a better future for you and your future family.

Take Control of Homework

So it doesn’t control you

Part 3

Take advantage of any free time

if you have a study period or long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages. You can even have separate ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMRMBER, PUT IT ON A CARD.

Study with a  friend

Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. consider joining a study group.

Communicate

If you have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.

Celebrate Your Achievements

Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well

“ Be always sure you’re right then go ahead”

What this means that if you are right about someone doing something to harm you and you have all the facts that can prove you are right about that person did harm you thengo fight on ahead and do what you need to do to defend your self.

Take control of homework

So it doesn’t control you

Part 2

Keep things in perspective

Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and use your time accordingly. Don’t waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important important things first is being wise and smart.

Get more involved

Keep your mind from wandering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with others or relating your homework to something you’re studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engaged in your studies and you’ll have a great experience. Demonstrate a good attitude toward home assignments, and you will begin to love doing it.

Organize the Information

People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw picture or charts to digest outlines. Try to find the methods that work best for you. Ask your teacher for recommendation if you’re having trouble.

Student success statement

“Character is higher than intellect.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Well I agree very well with what Waldo is trying to get through my head and what he means that if you can develop good character skills you will be smarter than intellect itself.

An example can be when I thought I was stupid for not doing what I was supposed to be doing in my Chemistry class and in the end of it I realized that it was my fault not my teacher’s fault.

Take Control of Homework

So it doesn’t control you

Part 1

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:

·      Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.

·      Build study habits that are essential in college.

·      Prepare for your classes.

·      Get a sense of progress.

Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.

Set the Mood

Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.

Know Where to Begin

Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t have to face them at the end.

Study at the Same Time Every Day

Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

“ I think it is better to do right, even if we suffer in doing so, than to incur the reproach of our conscience and posterity.”

Robert E. Lee

Well I did not quite get the statement but what I think he is trying to say is even if it kills us to do something that’s good instead of bad then do it don’t hesitate.

Note-Taking Strategies

Part 4

For review

Once you’ve done all of the above, you’ll find you’ve created your own personalized study guide. Cover the main section of the page and used the key words and questions in the left margin as a quiz.

Stick to it

Review your notes the day you take them and all your notes once a week. That way, you wont need to study as much when it’s time.

You’ve been doing the work all along.

Try out the Cornell system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your classmates how they take notes or ask a teacher for Advise. Taking good notes requires practice like any other skill. And more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll be to take notes in college.

Note-Taking Strategies

Part 3

After Class

As soon as class ends, review your notes and fill in any blanks. Underline, highlight and use symbols to sort through the information. If you don’t understand something, get help from your teacher or classmates.

After you’ve reviewed all your notes from class, in the left-hand area of the page write down key words and questions your teacher might ask on a test.

At the bottom of each page, write a summary of notes. This helps you digest what you’ve learned. It also improves your memory of the material for the long term and for test down the road.

When can you make all A’s?

Student success statement

“When you believe you can—you can.”

Dr. Maxwell Maltz

Well I agree very well to what Dr. Maxwell has to say because most people say they can do something at first but then it turns out that they doubt themselves when in fact they have not yet even tried to do something about it in the first place.

An example could be when I told myself that I would behave more better in my chemistry class but it turns out I have doubted myself to.

Note-Taking Strategies

Part 1

How to get your class notes into shape

Getting the most out of high school and college means studying hard and using your time in class wisely. An effective note-taking strategy can help you do both. Here are the basics.

Stay organized

It may seem obvious, but your class notes can help you if you can find them. When you’re taking notes be sure to:

·       Keep all your notes in one place.

·       Date and number pages; keeping them in order makes it easier to understand them later.

Before Class

·       Review the materials assigned for that class period thoroughly. Bring a list of any questions you may have.

When is it OK to fight?

Student Success Statement

“tell me what is right and I will fight for it.”

Woodrow Wilson

Well I agree with what Woodrow Wilson has to say because its only ok to fight when you are fighting for something that you wish to accomplish whether it is for love, friendship, or to gain back something you have lost. Also what this statement means that if you are going to fight make sure it is for a good reason not a bad one that’s going to get yourself killed.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Part 4 of 4

Emphasis on the Written Word

Most of the communication, as well as the course work, in distance-learning classes is written. That’s a plus, because the focus on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer---and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Yes, most of distance education is written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you cant do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the Internet.

Decide whether Its right for you

Distance education isn’t for everyone, but it might be for you. You really should seek it out and give it a try. You never know until you try. You might even fall in love with distance education. While distance education may be the perfect alternative for some students, its not the right choice for everyone. So carefully consider your unique needs and interests and give distance education a try; then, decide if it is right for you.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Part 3

Challenging Aspects of Distance Education

·       Lack of in-person interaction: some educators argue that both teacher-student and student-student contract are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or web conferences---but its not the same as being with other students in a classroom.

·       Different levels of quality: Many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning experience, but others may not. Research any program before signing on to make sure its rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.

·       The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be the ideal educational setting for you

“What lies behind us and what  lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

my refection to what ralph has to say is that I strongly agree with his statement because of the fact that if something that we did bad is always going to lie behind us and for what lies before us is a reminder that just to keep moving forward in life and forget about what you did that bad and that’s what lies within one man or women heart soul and self-conscious mind.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Part 2

Positive Aspects of Distance education

·      Independence and time management: taking courses online lets you hone your ability to work on your work own. You also gain experience in managing your time efficiently.

·      A flexible schedule: Schools can only provide a certain number of class period in a single school day, and there may not be enough time for you to take everything you want. Because distance education lets you take classes outside regular school hours, it gives you the flexibility to explore all your areas of interest.

·      Advanced and specialized classes: some schools cant provide advanced or specialized classes. Distance education gives you the chance to gain experience in areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.

My reflection to what Alex Schwazer  did was that he has my respects because not that many people now and days would not have the courage to go up their to the press and admit that he used a dosage of EPO and it takes a lot of courage to say something like that and now he is never going to run walk again but he has set him self free from doing those bad but good drugs.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Part 1

You may want to take a class that your high school doesn’t offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class—through distance learning.

Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet-based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.

Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses.

For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening, or participating in a class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school students. Check with your school counselor to see what’s available.

You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”

Rosa Parks

Well this means that never be nervous or afraid when it comes to a  time or place when you have or must bee doing something that will benefit each and every single person that you may or may not be working with.

When do you never need to be fearful about what you are doing?

When it comes to a point when you are around others who do good things like president Kennedy.

Balancing High School and Part-Time work

Part 5

Additional tips

Although working and going to school is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some foresight. These tips can help you handle the situation and make the most of your time:

·      Discuss your plans with your family. Balancing the demands of school and work is easier with their support.

·      Start slowly; don’t commit to working a lot of hours immediately

·      Avoid time conflicts by planning your class and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible.

·      Use your time efficiently. You can use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over a few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of downtime and your boss has no objection, you can use slow periods to do schoolwork.

·      If you commute to your job on public transportation, bring your schoolwork with you so you can work along the way.

·      Be flexible and willing to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things you’d like to do because of your school and work commitments.

·      If you have too much on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.

·      Schedule relaxation time. Everyone needs some downtime to stay happy and healthy.

Summary: well this woman would have almost got away with it but it was her guilty self-state of mind and she came to her census and lied about doing drugs but then realized she isn’t fooling no one.

Reflection: well I my self have done drugs and I am not proud of doing it but at least I myself admit it and she is a dumb person fro even trying the drug and she looks bad because she a runner and that shows you that people will do anything just to win in life.

Balancing high School and Part-Time Work

Part 4

He reminds students that “the activities and courses students choose vary considerably, so it’s important for young people to keep their individual situations clearly in mind.” MacGowan continues, “for example, student actors should allow for the fact that they wont have as much time during performance seasons. Students athletes need to remember the times of the year that they’ll be tied up with games and practices. Other students who are in classes that make considerable demands outside of the classroom must keep that reality in mind.”

“ Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”

Margaret Thatcher

Well I agree because what you do affects what you are going to be doing once you are an adult that will be dealing with a lot of difficult choices. Also you know what choices you have to make in order to make good things happen.

An example can be when I had to decide whether or not to go to school on time or go be a cool guy and smoke with the homies.

Balancing High School and Part-Time work

Part 3

Brad Macgowen, of the career center at Newton north high school in Massachusetts, thinks that working can be a valuable part of a students life, if taken on responsibly. “you can derive a great deal from working, considerably more than just money, “he says. “in most cases, you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skills and experiences. “in addition, your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.

School come first

School work, including homework and studying for tests, should always be your top priority. Macgowan cautions students who do decide to work, “if you are rushing through your assignments … or not studying enough for a test because of work, its time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

Student success statement

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”

Theodore Roosevelt

Well I don’t know what he means but I think it means that if you are deciding weather to go out and party or stay home and study for a big test that counts for 100 percent of your grade, I mean me personally I would go and party but at this moment for those who want to succeed they will go with studying all night long and get good grades because they chose the right path to study not party.

One example can be when I had to choose to stay after school and study for the CAHSEE exam test or go home and do nothing and choose the wrong, and what did I choose to do is go home and do nothing but be up to no good.
