Student success statement

“ Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”

Margaret Thatcher

Well I agree because what you do affects what you are going to be doing once you are an adult that will be dealing with a lot of difficult choices. Also you know what choices you have to make in order to make good things happen.

An example can be when I had to decide whether or not to go to school on time or go be a cool guy and smoke with the homies.

Balancing High School and Part-Time work

Part 3

Brad Macgowen, of the career center at Newton north high school in Massachusetts, thinks that working can be a valuable part of a students life, if taken on responsibly. “you can derive a great deal from working, considerably more than just money, “he says. “in most cases, you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skills and experiences. “in addition, your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.

School come first

School work, including homework and studying for tests, should always be your top priority. Macgowan cautions students who do decide to work, “if you are rushing through your assignments … or not studying enough for a test because of work, its time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

Student success statement

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”

Theodore Roosevelt

Well I don’t know what he means but I think it means that if you are deciding weather to go out and party or stay home and study for a big test that counts for 100 percent of your grade, I mean me personally I would go and party but at this moment for those who want to succeed they will go with studying all night long and get good grades because they chose the right path to study not party.

One example can be when I had to choose to stay after school and study for the CAHSEE exam test or go home and do nothing and choose the wrong, and what did I choose to do is go home and do nothing but be up to no good.

Part 5

The Arts

Research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardize tests. The arts help you recognize patterns, discern differences and similarities, and exercise your mind in unique ways, often outside a traditional classroom setting.

Many colleges require or recommend one or two semesters in the arts. Good choices include studio art, dance, music and drama. Many students have talents and extraordinary abilities in the arts. Students should look  within their own repertoire of talents and identify their artistic abilities and take college classes to develop their talents.

Advanced Placement program

To be sure you are ready to take on college-level work, enroll in the most challenging courses you can in high school, such as honors or AP courses. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3.0 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success and college graduation rates than students who don’t take AP.

Work hard in your righteous pursuits, and you will reap the benefits of self-fulfillment and job satisfaction. Don’t take short cuts just  to “get by”, instead, take a challenging and difficult roads (courses) and reach higher mountain peaks of achievement.

Well this guy must have felt so guilty because this happened 60 years ago and barely today this guy decides to bring that money back with interest

This random guy does choose the right because after 60 years the guy is kind  enough to return the money back to its owner.

Selecting your courses

Part 2

The following subjects and classes are standard fare for success in high school and beyond, whether you plan to attend a four year or two year college.

English (language Arts)

Take English every year. Traditional courses such as American and English literature, help you improve your writing skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary.

Math

You need algebra and geometry to succeed on college entrance exams and in college math classes and in many careers. Take them early on. That way, you’ll be able to enroll in advanced science and in math in high school, and show colleges you’re ready for higher-level work.

Most colleges look for students who have taken three years of math in high school. The more competitive ones require or recommend four years. Each school has its own program, but some of the courses typically offered are:

·      Algebra 1

·      Algebra 2

·      Geometry

·      Trigonometry

·      Calculus

‘Tis the set of the sail

Ella Wheeler Wilcox 1916

But every mind there openeth,

A way and a way away,

A high soul climbs the high way,

And the low soul gropes the low,

And in between on the misty flats, the rest drift to and fro.

But to every man there openeth,

A high way and a low

And Every mind decideth,

The way his soul shall go

One ship sails east,

And another west,

By the self-same winds that blow,

‘Tis the set of sails

And not the gales,

That tells the way we go.

Like the winds of the sea

Are the waves of time,

As we journey along through life,

‘tis the set of soul,

That determines the goal,

And not the calm or the strife.

The power of study groups

http:/www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/high-school/50432.html

Part 2

The benefits of study groups

Group study offers other advantages in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of class material. These include the opportunity to: reinforce note-taking. If your AP biology notes are unclear, you can ask a member of your study group to help you fill the gaps. Share talents. Each person brings different strengths, such as organizational skills, the ability to stick to a task or capacity for memorization.

Come more ground. Group members may be able to solve a calculus problem together that none would have solved alone.

Benefit from a support system. Members often have common goals, such as good grades. Each persons work affects the other members, which results in making members supportive of one and other. Socialize. Its more fun to study with others; the give-and-take makes it more interesting. And because its more fun, you spend more time studying!!!!

Walk the talk

This video made me feel good about myself it relief me about all the stress people have been putting on me and the song relaxes me it keeps me calm and not thinking about bad stuff. Also this makes me realize what I have been going through these past couple of years.

Student success statement

“Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices.”

Albert A. Montapert

Well I agree with this guy because whatever I choose to do and the choices I make when I am about to do those things all made me realize that I could never go back and fix those mistakes and it sucks because the more I think about it the more it hurts me not to tell anyone what I have done and I haven’t even tried to go back and fix those wrongdoings.

How to take on college studying

Part 3

Do the reading

You need to do more than just read the chapters you are assigned—you’re expected to understand them thoroughly. Here are some tips:

·      Don’t skim. Read all the material carefully.

·      Break up difficult assignments  into sections you can digest—chapters, subsections or even paragraphs.

·      Look up any words that you don’t understand.

·      Pause to think about whether you understand the material; ask questions that is unclear.

·      Take notes instead of highlighting—this makes you think through and rephrase the key points.

·      Create a summary sheet of what you learned from each assignment you read.
